2018 Colorado Business Hall of Fame Laureate Bio: William B. Pauls

William B. Pauls was born and educated in Canada. He graduated with chartered accountant designation in 1968, and worked as a staff accountant and a manager at Deloitte Haskins and Sells in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. In 1971, he established William B. Pauls & Co. Chartered Accountants. Pauls merged his practice with Deloitte Haskins and Sells in 1976 and became a national partner in the firm.

In 1979, Pauls led an investment group that acquired the Denver Technological Center (DTC) from First National City Corp. Home to several major businesses and corporations, DTC is a hub for business in the southeastern corridor of the metro area that has grown steadily during the past 40 years.  For its own account and through various joint ventures, Pauls’ team developed millions of square feet of office space and hundreds of acres of land in south Denver. In addition, the company expanded its development business to Atlanta, Georgia and Houston, Texas.

Pauls is the chairman of PAULS, an investment and real estate development company organized in 1989. For more than 25 years, the company has developed and owned land, office and industrial buildings and residential buildings in Denver, Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Toronto and Calgary.

Pauls serves on the board of directors of the Denver Art Museum and Colorado Christian University. In addition, he is a board member of Collegiate Peaks Bank, Columbine Capital Corporation, Nordstrom Federal Savings Bank, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Colorado UpLift and Project C.U.R.E.

Pauls is married to Verna, and they have two sons and six grandchildren.
