JA Job Shadow, presented by Pinnacol Assurance, prepares local high school students to be entrepreneurial thinkers in their approach to work. The program includes teacher-led classroom instruction focusing on key work-readiness skills such as leadership, teamwork and how to conduct a successful job search. The students then apply their classroom learning by visiting local businesses for a mentoring experience that gives them a first-hand glimpse into career opportunities.
More than 800 students will participate in a JA Job Shadow this school year. Last semester, students visited AirMethods, The Ritz-Carlton at Bachelor Gulch, Noble Energy, Encana, and the Microsoft Store. So far this spring, there are JA Job Shadows scheduled at FirstBank, JE Dunn Construction, Level 3 Communications, Sports Authority, TIAA-CREF, NBC Universal/Comcast, Deloitte Digital, SM Energy, IHS, Otterbox and AT&T with more being added each week!
What students have to say about the JA Job Shadow program:
“Some aspects of a career can be taught be others must be experienced.”
“I learned that regardless of where you come from or what’s happened to you, you can accomplish anything.”
“I can personally say that going to this job shadow totally changes my mind about what I might want to do with my future.”
“I leaned how everyone working together can make something bigger/better than a single person could.”
“The most valuable thing I learned today was that if you push yourself and get determined then you could become anything.”
