One of the newest members of the JA Apple Society is Brent Geist, dedicated volunteer from FirstBank, who has been giving his time to help high school students since 2007. Last year alone, Brent taught a JA Careers with a Purpose program at CEC Middle College (Denver high school); coached two different schools on the JA Stock Market Challenge and attended the event to volunteer; brought his budgeting skills to JA Finance Park; and helped JA Business Week students with interviewing skills.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunities that JA and FirstBank have given me to help prepare young people to be successful in their lives after school,” says Brent. “One young man in a Careers With A Purpose class that I taught said to me that he never thought that he wanted to go to college, but by the end of the class he was excited to go. That really showed me that my contributions have been worthwhile and I have been excited for future JA volunteer opportunities.”

Brent goes above and beyond for the students he works with. For the JA Stock Market Challenge, he saw that his class was struggling with some of the concepts, so he created a chart to better describe how the market works. Teachers that have worked with Brent always request to have him come back, as he is not only professional but also connects well with the students.
