Volunteer Inspires Latino Students to Pursue Dreams

Rocio Acosta is a dynamic Hispanic community member as well as an active Junior Achievement volunteer. An avid supporter of education of young Latinos, she believes education is crucial for them to get ahead and be successful.  Junior Achievement has given Rocio the opportunity to teach students about personal financial literacy and how education will affect their future at several Denver Public Schools with large Hispanic student populations including: Sabin International Baccalaureate School, Goldrick Elementary School and Garden Place Elementary School.

Rocio, a Colombia native, studied at Cordova University and earned a bachelor degree as a Music Teacher. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Direction of Choirs at Javerina University in Bogota. She has worked at many private and high income schools in Colombia until she decided to migrate to Colorado. She has a Teaching License in Colorado for K- 12th grades. As a professional educator, Rocio believes JA’s programs are “clear, didactic, hands-on, creative, and children love it!”

Rocio is thrilled to volunteer for Junior Achievement, because “it gives me the opportunity to teach again and inspire Latino students to pursue their dreams.”

You can join Rocio and other Latino volunteers and inspire Hispanic students through the JA Hispanic Initiative, which is sponsored by MillerCoors, KeyBank, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Contact Monica Hernandez for more information at 303-628-7379.
