When Frank Pulley sold his business in 2006, he had some free time and his friend suggested that he volunteer for JA.  It turned out to be a great fit!  In the past seven years, Frank has taught over 250 students, but his goal is to teach 1,000 students or more! He has developed long-term relationships with several schools and teachers request him to come back year after year.

As a businessperson, Frank appreciates the opportunity to have a positive impact on young people and encourage entrepreneurship.  “Although the schools that I volunteer at have awesome curriculum, I have always thought that a practical skills course on free enterprise, entrepreneurship and personal financial literacy has been lacking from a time standpoint,” said Frank. “I also think that someone like myself that has been “in the trenches” so to speak as a business owner make a big difference!”

When asked about his fondest experience as a JA volunteer, Frank has a hard time coming up with just one.  “I have so many fond memories about JA that it is hard to count them all,” said Frank. “I have had several kids come up to me in the hallways and tell me that they still remember their JA experience with me and that it made an impact on what they wanted to do in life. Many of the classes I teach have written my thank you notes that I cherish.”

Frank was recently inducted into the JA Apple Society for his dedication to JA’s mission. This exclusive recognition is earned by a steadfast commitment to engaging with students multiple times a year. Volunteers receive a special gift after reaching 250, 500, 750, 1,000 and 1,500 students. During the 2011/12 school year, 170 new members were inducted into the JA Apple Society.
